HIGHLANDS' COMMUNITY MINISTRY

Highlands United Methodist Church is passionate about Jesus’ call to serve the poor and hurting. We believe in the inherent dignity of those who are ignored by society, and we strive to see them as Christ does—as children of God. Our prayer is that they will also see themselves as His children.

Situated in the heart of Five Points South, our church can give hands-on help to those who need it. From providing basic needs to the homeless to assisting the poor with getting birth certificates and other identification, our community ministries are helping to change lives.

We would love for you to partner with us in making these ministries a success. You can participate on any variety of schedules and partner with an experienced volunteer. For more information, please contact our Director of Ministries, Reggie Holder.

Hospitality Hour
The area’s homeless find a refuge from the streets with refreshments, mail and phone service, needed toiletries, and a compassionate, listening ear. (Monday through Saturday from 9-10 a.m.)

Clothing Closet
Those in need of basic clothing can find it here. (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10:00 a.m.)

Laundry Service
Our neighbors without access to clean clothes can drop off their laundry. (Monday through Saturday from 9-10 a.m.)

Project ID
People without birth certificates or state-issued identification can get the credentials they need to function in life. (By referral from partner agencies. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-noon.)

Legal Clinic
Members of the Birmingham Bar Association volunteer their time to help with certain civil issues. (Last Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m.)
