Sunday School at Highlands
Sunday School for all ages meets each Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.
Adults:
May 31 – Pull Up a Chair: Let's Talk About Faith This Summer
A relaxed, gathering to ease into the summer together. No curriculum, no homework, no pressure. Just an honest and lively conversation about the questions we carry, the stories that have shaped us, and what we are hoping to discover in the months ahead. Think of it as the front porch version of Sunday school — where the best talking happens and nobody is in a hurry to leave.
June 7 – Song and Story
Join in to hear stories of faith and raise your voice in songs of hope.
June 14 – Heart and Hand (FOR ALL AGES)
Donation item: Nonperishable food and personal care items for Blazer Kitchen (UAB Food Pantry)
June 21 – Slow Down, You're Moving Too Fast: A Summer Conversation About Rest
Summer is supposed to be slower. So why does it so rarely feel that way? This relaxed, discussion-based class wanders through what Scripture, the Wesleyan tradition, and plain common sense have to say about rest and Sabbath. What would it actually look like to stop? And what has God been trying to say to us that we keep being too busy to hear? Come tired. Leave a little lighter.
June 28 – Guest Speaker: Cindy Lowery, Alabama River Alliance
July 5 – No Sunday School
July 12 – Heart and Hand (FOR ALL AGES)
Donation item: Diapers and wipes for Bundles of Hope
July 19 – Stumbling Toward the Sacred: Stories of Unexpected Grace
Some of the best faith stories don't begin in church. They begin in a traffic jam, a hospital waiting room, a late-night kitchen conversation, or a flash flood in Texas with a group of teenagers and a very surprised convent of nuns. This storytelling session invites participants to share — or simply to listen to — the moments when something holy showed up somewhere they didn't expect it..
July 26 – Guest Speaker: Dr. Carlos E. Alemán, ¡HICA!
August 2 – Song and Story
August 9 – Heart and Hand (FOR ALL AGES)
Donation item: Backpack Ministry supplies (nonperishable food items)
August 16 – Questions We're Almost Afraid to Ask
An open, honest, genuinely safe conversation about the questions that tend to get quietly set aside during the regular year — the doubts, the wonderings, the things we half-believe and aren't sure what to do with. No tidy answers required or promised. Just the reminder that good questions asked in good company are themselves a form of faith, and that John Wesley himself never stopped wrestling with the hard ones.
